Our Purpose

As per the RBSTACC constitution, the role of the community council is as follows:

The general purpose of the Community Council shall to be to ascertain, coordinate and express to the local authorities for its area and to public authorities the views of the community which it represents in relation to matters for which those authorities are responsible; and to take or initiate such action in the interests of that community as appears to it to be expedient and practicable and to safeguard and improve the amenities and environment of St Andrews.

So in real terms, the Community Council acts as the voice of the population of St Andrews through a maximum of 20 elected members, who must be residents of St Andrews.

We engage in various ways with the people of St Andrews, promote community participation in local matters and are involved in projects and activities that promote the best possible environment for those living, working, studying in or visiting the town.
