Jack Nicklaus Award

Jack Nicklaus was made an honorary citizen of St Andrews in 2022, not awarded a “Jack Nicklaus Award” at the town. The honor, equivalent to the Freedom of the City, was bestowed by the Royal Burgh of St Andrews Community Council in recognition of his exceptional golfing achievements, particularly his two Open Championship wins at the Old Course in 1970 and 1978. This makes him only the third American to receive this honor, following Benjamin Franklin and Bobby Jones.
