St Andrews Community Council Civic Reception 2025

– Friday 28 November

The evening began outside the Town Hall with a stirring performance by the City of St Andrews Pipe Band, who played in Logies Lane to welcome guests to the reception. Inside the historic Town Hall — the home of the Royal Burgh of St Andrews Community Council — we were delighted to honour both long-standing and new contributors to our community.

We awarded a £250 donation (from funds generously donated by member Billie Hammond, of the Showman’s Guild) to each of the following local charities and initiatives: the Cosmos Centre, Vineyard Foodbank, St Andrews in Bloom and Families First.

We also took the opportunity to recognise outstanding volunteer service. Special mention went to Janie Douglas (ex-chair of Haydays) and the Kate Kennedy Club, which is themselves approaching a milestone 100th anniversary of their traditional spring procession in 2026.

Awards were also made to the winners of this year’s competitions — in Art, Photography, Gardening and Putting. Our oldest winner was Mr Robert Christie, who took the Garden Recreation Committee Trophy while celebrating his 90th birthday on the night; our youngest was just 6-year-old Marnie Thompson, awarded the Youth Putting prize — a reminder of the wide age-range our Community Council aims to speak to and support.

The Civic Reception remains a much-loved fixture in the community calendar, bringing together young and old, long-time volunteers and new faces, to celebrate what we’ve achieved as a community — and to look forward with optimism to what’s ahead.
